So You've Bought Small Bedside Cot ... Now What?

What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib (also known as bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a form of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you build a bond with your newborn.

The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib has a removable fabric and wipe-clean lining. This makes it easier to clean than bedside cribs which can create a mess to clean. Plus, it has an upper bar that can be easily lowered for nighttime feeds without needing to search for zips in the dark.

Anna discovered the CoZee to provide a safe, cozy sleeping place for her infant. She liked that it didn't move like other models, so she wasn't woken up at night while trying to comfort her child during feedings. The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to make parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and shifted through three different slide positions to be placed beside the parent's bed or in the corner, so that the baby is always within reach. The mesh siding lets air circulate through, allowing you to see your baby quickly. And you can stow extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket underneath.

As opposed to other bedside cribs Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag so that it can be taken anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room and felt that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot, and not too big or too small. The large storage basket is perfect for storing extra bedding or nappies.

This is a great option for parents who want to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. If one of the partners suffers from mobility issues, such as back pain or arthritis. Our mum testers love the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora, and it also has an optional reflux incline to help alleviate gas.

Our mums are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines which state that you should place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). The mattress is also firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are easy to find. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs however, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options on our list.
